Enterprise Risk Management

Anticipating Risk. Protecting Our Mission. Strengthening the Future.

The University of Arkansas is committed to proactively identifying and managing risks that could affect our ability to achieve our mission. Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) provides a coordinated university-wide approach to understanding risk, strengthening decision-making and supporting long-term institutional resilience. Enterprise Risk Management is a shared responsibility, and every member of the university community plays a role.

What Is Enterprise Risk Management?

ERM is an on-going and collaborative process designed to identify, assess and manage potential risks that may adversely impact the university’s objectives, operations and reputation.

Through campus wide surveys, small group assessment workshops and targeted discussions, ERM assesses and documents actions to be taken by the university to identify, mitigate and monitor risks that negatively impact the achievement of the university’s mission, strategic plan and/or continuing operational programs.

ERM helps our university see the full picture of risk and opportunity across academics, operations, finance and reputation. Instead of reacting to problems after they happen, ERM allows us to anticipate and prioritize them — whether it’s compliance, campus safety, cybersecurity or enrollment trends. By integrating ERM into our planning and decision-making, we strengthen accountability, protect our mission, and ensure that resources are directed toward what truly matters: advancing education and long-term institutional resilience.

ERM Program Areas

To better serve our community, Financial Compliance, Risk and Insurance, and Youth Protection are now housed within the ERM program. Each of these functions plays a vital role in identifying, assessing and mitigating risks that support the university’s mission and protect its people, assets and reputation.
